How to identify a Cockatiel in Good health

Cockatiels are active in the early morning and late afternoon. Healthy cockatiels can live up to 15 – 20 years. So before picking up cockatiels you must ensure the birds are healthy. This can be identified by the behavior of the bird.



Here are some of the signs that a cockatiel is healthy. Keep them in mind when you are selecting your pet.

  1. Bright eyes
  2. A clean cere (the area above the bird’s beak that covers his nares, ornostrils)
  3. Clean legs and vent
  4. Smooth feathers
  5. Upright posture
  6. A full-chested appearance
  7. Bird is actively moving around the cage
  8. Good appetite
